Good preparation makes filling out the tax return easier and faster. It is advisable before the beginning of the year or during the year in question to collect all the necessary documents and keep them ready (e.g. salary certificate, capital and interest certificates, etc.).
Tax laws allow for different types of deductions.
Deductions and their amounts differ from each canton. Pay particular attention to what you can deduce (social deductions, debts, etc.) and directly present only the vouchers and certificates explicitly requested in the declaration.
The spouses fill out their joint tax return, both with their signature. In the case of hereditary communions or co-properties, they are also to be included in the tax return.
Always keep a copy of your tax return. The law requires the keeping the tax documentation for at least 10 years following the year of filing the tax return. It is therefore good to keep past declarations in order and not to lose them in order to be able to recover them in case of need.
Respect the deadlines for submitting the tax return. Anyone who does not submit a tax return within the set deadline must pay a fine of 1,000 francs maximum in the canton of Ticino. However, it is possible to request an extension of the term, normally free of charge.
